There is lots of iPhone applications for learning Japanese characters.
The application that introduce this time is to learn Hiragana and Katakana.

Kana Strokes
It is a free application. The animation will show Hiragana and Katakana in stroke order.
Roman, IPA phonetic symbols and the original kanji will be shown too.
